Uniondale Public Library Adult Learning Center
The Board of Trustees of the Uniondale Public Library has established an Adult Learning Center to provide a dedicated learning environment and specialized materials for the adult learner.
The Center provides materials (printed and audio format) to new immigrants in Spanish, French and Haitian Creole (three major languages spoken in the Uniondale area). A separate collection includes materials for adult literacy learners, such as English grammar, adult easy read fiction and non-fiction. Audio books for adults to learn other languages are also located in the Center, as are newspapers and periodicals in several languages.
Five computers with internet access and Office suite software are dedicated to users of the Adult Learning Center, for accessing online databases pertaining to ESOL (English for the Speakers of Other Languages) , HSE (High School Equivalency), career building and testing, and language learning. Anyone wishing to use these computers must adhere to the same policies as for the public computers, and must register with the Adult Reference Desk prior to using them.
