Q: What are your service hours?

A: We are open for Contactless Services, and select on-site services with limited time and capacity. Our hours are as follows: Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays 9:30am-12:30pm and 2:30pm-5:30pm. Tuesdays from 10:30am – 12:30pm and 2:30pm – 5:30pm. Saturdays 10am – 1:30pm.

Q: What select services are you offering at the library?

A: On-site browsing, use of copy and fax machines, newspapers and magazines, and computer use are allowed with some restrictions. The visits are by appointment only.

Q: How do I make an appointment to visit?

A: In order to ensure everyone’s safety we are currently limiting each patron’s in-building visit to 30 minutes with no more than 10 patrons in the building per 60 min. To schedule an appointment please visit our website at www.uniondalelibrary.org  or call us at 516- 489-2220, and we’ll gladly assist you.  

Q: Will I have to wear a mask when I visit the library?

A: Yes. Face masks are required for all of our employees and patrons (over 2 years old) while visiting the library. Masks with valves, and masks that do not cover your nose and extend below your chin as well as face coverings such as bandanas, or scarves are not permitted. Replacement masks will be provided as needed.

Q: Will I have to wait in line?

A:  You may experience short wait times before being allowed to enter the library. To maintain physical distancing, we are limiting library occupancy and giving everyone lots of room.  

Q: How is physical distancing practiced at the library?

A: We’re limiting occupancy and we have reduced the number of services so patrons can browse while maintaining a safe distance between themselves and others; social distancing markers are placed, both inside and outside the library.

Q: What protocols are you following to keep the library clean?

A: Throughout the day, we’re conducting enhanced cleanings that place special emphasis on all surfaces, displays, and highly trafficked areas. We close M-F between 1 and 2pm to conduct cleanings of our library. The process is repeated at the end of the day. Additionally, we have upgraded our air filtration system, and installed barriers at all our service desks for added security and hygiene. Hand sanitizer is available throughout the building.

Q: Can I come by and pick up my items without going into the library?

A: Yes! Our Contactless service continue to be available: Place your holds from home and then pick up your items at the library.

Q: Can I return my items at the library?

A: Yes! Please continue to use our outdoor return bins. We are not accepting returns at the Circulation Desk at this time. All returned materials are quarantined for 96h before being checked in and re-shelved.

Q: Can I participate in a program or workshop at the library?

A: We’ve temporarily paused In-person classes, tutoring, public programs and community gatherings in our library, but are excited to offer virtual reference services through daily Reference Chats, access to digital content as well as various online programs aimed at different age groups.
