A Study in Scarlet

A Study in Scarlet, published in 1887, is the first book featuring Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson. It introduces early days in Baker Street and presents their first case. Focusing on Part I which is entitled “Being a reprint from the reminiscences of John H. Watson MD, late of the Army Medical Department”, we will be pairing this selection with The Beekeeper’s Apprentice which takes place later in the detective’s career. Holmes has retired to Sussex Downs to raise bees. He teams up with 15-year-old American, Mary Russell, to investigate the kidnapping of the daughter of an American senator.
