ďBooksĒ by Emely Sanchez

The little red riding hood
Skipping through the woods
Reading the three little pigs
As the wolf blows down the twigs
Books, Books, Books, Galore
Oh how I wonder when Iíll get more

Nancy Drew, solving up some crimes
While the criminals are doing their time
A mystery here, a mystery there
Only a detective would even care.
Books, Books, Books, Galore
Oh how I wonder when Iíll get more

Deep and Dark and Dangerous
The ghosts there are quite famous
A ghost here, a ghost there
BOO! They might even give you a scare
Books, Books, Books, Galore
Oh how I wonder when Iíll get more
Reading about the old, ancient past
Mummies look like theyíre in a body cast
Greece is here and Rome is there
I travel there while reading.†
See, I care
Books, Books, Books, Galore
Oh how I wonder when Iíll get more
Look at all the stars shining bright
Wish I knew what caused this sight.
Oh, I know! Iíll read a book!
It might even show how they look.
Books, Books, Books, Galore
Oh how I wonder when Iíll get moreÖ

ďPaint the Town RedĒ by Cary Lamb

Bang! Bang! Bang! Another boy found dead,
And the walls behind him are slathered in red.
But I digress. And no one ever wants to confess,
To the vandalism to this walls, and to the vandal acts against our souls.
Do they not understand? We are killing ourselves.
Every time I hear a bell, I know a kid out there yelps at the sight of a gun,
But before he has time to run. Bang!
One in the leg.
Bang!
One in the chest.
Bang!
One in the head,
and just like that the living becomes the dead,
My city, my home of Chicago is painted red.
Itís like spray paint, how fast they make graves causing heartache.
And I pray and pray for protection, but who cares if Iím the only good soul among the fray.

Day to day, to day to day, I walk my street afraid, that one day,
My life will fade away at the whim of another.
Itís a form of control, to instill fear in the masses,
A fear that doesnít pass just because a good soul asks.
I fear that my mother would never forgive
the world for taking away her world,
And the only thing that would remain is a
tee-shirt with my name, saying we miss you.
R.I.P? Rest in Peace?
Please, donít perpetuate a personís poisoned soul as peaceful,
when the way they lost their life was pitiful.
Itís too dangerous to dream, when youíre
destined to die, before the age of 25.
I will paint the town red, and cling to life,
cause Iíll be damned if I let someone take mine.
Iím getting out of this town, Iím leaving this ghetto,
Because if Iím gonna be a† puppet,
then I will be my own Geppetto.
